Difference Between BT and HSK Tool Holders
DIN 5482 BT and HSK Tool holders are used for high precision tool holders, and both have their qualities. HSK Tool holders are symmetrical and used for high precision tooling, and BT Tools are also used for high precision and high-speed tools. In the BT Tool holder, due to radial growth, the holder is pulled deeper into the taper, which leads to a loss in accuracy. In HSK Tool holder’s retention system unable to pull the taper, which makes them more accurate? Tool holders mainly comprise of 4 parts which are Retention Knobs, Taper, V-flange and Collect point.
Retention Knobs: Retention knobs help the tool holder be in place; it helps keep it in the spindle. So the tool must not go flying separated during any machinery operations.
Taper: This is a part of the tool holder which is conical in shape and has a tolerance level of 0.0002. The tapers are different in both BT and HSK tool holders.
V-flange: this part of the tool holder locks the automatic tool changer during any operations and provide security.
Collect pocket: in this part of the tool holder, the collect goes in and get locked.
Though both BT and HSK tool holders are almost similar their lies differences that we can talk about:
One of the fundamental differences between both the tool holders is the taper ratio. The HSK tool holder has a 1:10 taper, whereas the BT tool holder has a 7:24 taper ratio.
The following difference we can talk about is the double contact point. In HSK tool holders, the spindle comes in contact with the v-flange and taper, while in BT tool holders, the spindle comes in contact taper.
The positioning of drawbar fingers is also different in both the tool holders. In HSK Tool holders, the shanks are inside, wherein in BT Tool holders, they are surrounded externally around retention knobs.
